Dr David Greenfield was the instructor of the training with high level officials from the City of London.
Participants were enrolled in the “Principles and Business Models in a Circular Economy” Certificate. They studied the materials at their own pace, while simultaneously, in a hybrid format, they had in-person training sessions with the Circular Economy Institute instructor, Dr Greenfield.
This program was a professional credential offered internationally by the CE Institute to people aiming to become circular economy professionals. To earn this Certificate, participants immersed themselves into a self-study program that gave them the most comprehensive and succinct understanding of the principles of the circular economy and the business models that can be developed in this field. Participants learned how the circular economy is being deployed in the real world and increased their competence to develop skills useful in today’s business world.
In this training, participants also learned how the circular economy can be applied to the built environment. In particular, the training gave an overview of multiple case studies taking place worldwide. Several tools for implementing circularity were discussed including:
- How to design cities for circularity
- Current projects around circular buildings, including material passports and “buildings as materials banks”
- Specific tools for implementing circularity, including circular city scans, mapping material flows and city dashboards
The training was well received by the City of London, whom has a long history in setting high sustainability goals and trying to lead the world by example. This was one example of such commitments.
