The event at the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) was moderated by Eng. Omar Alsaleh. In this event, experts representing local ministries, international organizations and academic institutions have called for the application of circular economy principles in the food industries in Jordan.
The Director of the Water, Environment and Climate Change Centre, Almoayied Assayed, gave a presentation on the project, its importance and its logical framework. The CEO of Decapolis, Abdul Rahman Habashneh, highlighted the importance of using Block-chain technology to track and trace tangible and intangible assets and it fits to the purpose of circular economy in food industry.
The forum included scientific insights presented by Dr Vikas Kumar from the University of the West of England in Bristol, the academic partner of the project, who spoke in detail about circular economy in the food industry and highlighted the importance of integrating industry 4.0 tools.
The workshop was part of an applied research project on the green economy and efficient and cleaner production of resources, funded by the Newton Khalidi Fund at the British embassy and implemented by the Water, Environment and Climate Change Centre at the RSS.
This workshop was conducted to introduce true national circular economy transition especially in the food sector and how it enhances food security. Having different environmental schemes, policies and strategies fosters the adoption of circularity but principles and definitions were vital to give justice to the new global model and its uniqueness.
This event set the tone towards circularity and how industry 4.0 and block-chain fits to purpose. The workshop has focused on Inclusiveness, Integration and collective efforts between all national stakeholders to have a just and holistic transition. This was the first national workshop on circular economy.
